Heritage

Duras Castle

A neoclassical castle from 1787–1789 on a 134-hectare estate: the eye-catcher of Duras.

The neoclassical Duras Castle with its dome and columned portico, behind a wrought-iron gate

The neoclassical Duras Castle was built between 1787 and 1789 on the foundations of a medieval stronghold. It stands on a magnificent 134-hectare estate with sweeping parkland, ponds, orchards and woods: one of the most impressive estates in the region.

The castle is privately owned, but it remains a much-loved landmark in the Duras landscape. The stately avenue, the surrounding woods and the vineyards make the estate a place of peace, beauty and cultural heritage.

From Hoeve Duras it is an easy walk past the castle and along its avenue.
